Welcome to Beit Benedict

Benedictine Spirituality

Beit Benedict finds its vision in Benedictine spirituality. It will be located at a Benedictine Abbey that has been in the Holy Land 100 years. Stability is a guiding virtue of Beit Benedict. The Dormition Abbey has been a stable presence of the presence of God despite war, exile, destruction, fire, and military occupation. Beit Benedict will also be a stable resource for peace. Our fundraising efforts will provide an endowment to cover annual operational and maintenance expenses, guaranteeing the stability of the spiritual, cultural and educational programs offered at Beit Benedict Peace Academy.

Another Benedictine virtue, hospitality is opperative at the Dormition Abbey and will shape the experience of all who come to Beit Benedict. Muslim women pray to the blessed mother in the crypt of the Dormition. Israelis young and old attend the spiritual concerts at the Dormition Abbey and are present at major feasts, to experience the prayer of the monastic community. People of all faiths, but especially Catholic Christians from around the globe, have found the abbey to offer neutral ground and sacred space where God is encountered.

Finally, and probably most importantly, reverence will inspire all words and actions at Beit Benedict. This hallmark of Benedictine spirituality will help to transform hearts and minds. There is reverence for the holy sites in the Holy Land, however, what is needed is the reverencing of the inner sanctuaries created by God in every human heart. Modeling and inspiring this deep reverence is truly at the heart of Beit Benedict. As the late Pope John Paul II has said, :peace begins in the human heart, the place of God's intervention."
