Beit Benedict Peace Academy, located within the Benedictine Dormition Abbey on Mount Sion, is an expansion of the Abbey's 100-year history of offering sacred space for spiritual and intercultural encounters that foster reverence and reconciliation. This aspect of Beit Benedict will facilitate interactions that further the desire and possibility for peace with God, self and neighbor.
The result of these encounters is a deepened appreciation of one's own faith as it relates to peace; an enhanced understanding of the teachings of other traditions regarding peace; and a strengthened commitment to create a community which affirms the rights and dignity of all peoples.
Beit Benedict Peace Academy will enable the Dormition Abbey to enhance the spiritual, pastoral and charitable support for Christians in the Holy Land. Christians comprise less than 2% of the population in the Holy Land. Christians are fleeing the Holy Land due to the severe political and economic oppression. This fragile community requires the urgent response of the Church
The Dormition Abbey has acquired the last piece of land that can be developed on Mount Sion, a building permit from the Israeli government and approved architectural plans. The nearly impossible has already been achieved! What remains is the $14 Million necessary to build and endow Beit Benedict.
